About ChoozaBot

ChoozaBot is Chooza’s website reader. It visits a store only when someone asks for a demo of that store on our site, reads a small sample of its products, and respects robots.txt.

When it visits

Only when a person types a store’s website into our “Try it on your store” demo. ChoozaBot doesn’t crawl the web, follow links to other sites or revisit on a schedule. Each demo reads the site once, and the demo, with everything read for it, is deleted after 24 hours.

What it reads

  • The home page (store name, logo, colours, platform).
  • Public product data: a Shopify store’s public product list, a product feed, or the structured data on up to 40 product pages listed in the sitemap.
  • At most 100 products are used. It never signs in, submits forms, adds to cart or reads customer data.

How it behaves

  • It reads robots.txt first and skips anything disallowed for ChoozaBot (or for all agents).
  • At most 4 requests at a time to a site.
  • It stops after 45 seconds, whatever it has read.
  • At most 5 demos per website per day, whoever asks for them.

How to recognise it

Its requests carry this user agent:

ChoozaBot/1.0 (+https://chooza.io/bot)

How to block it

Add this to your robots.txt. A demo of your store then reads nothing and tells the visitor your site asked bots not to read it.
